Short Courses
March 20th & 21st, 2012- EMC Integrity will once again offer its "EMC Essentials" short course. We offered this course last October, and it was a huge success. Registration for this course will open in mid-January, when the official notice is posted. But for those not familiar with it, this is a 2-day seminar which is a must for technicians, engineers, managers, or anyone tasked with the job of getting a product through compliance testing.
A summary of what will be taught is as follows:
Day 1: Attendees will be introduced to units of measurement, time and frequency domain, differential and common mode, radiated emissions, ESD, PC board layout and the infamous "dB", among many other topics. Day one is crucial to understanding the Day 2 presentation, as it will also include demonstrations of many of the basic principles.
Day 2: Hands-on. Attendees will learn the tools and techniques that can be used for pre-compliance measurements as well as troubleshooting EMC problems in a more formal setting. We will include the popular "Top Ten EMC Issues" and will demonstrate several low-cost tools and techniques for EMC troubleshooting - many of these may be constructed in the lab.
The demonstrations are extremely poplular, and they are one aspect of the class that sets this apart from other courses being offered. Learning the math is one thing, but understanding the concepts encountered in the field of EMC is another. The frequent demonstrations do an excellent job of bridging the gap between reciting formulas and understanding what the math really means!
As you would expect, this class will be taught by an expert in the field. Kenneth Wyatt has over 20 years experience in the field of EMC, and has been responsible for taking numerous products, both commercial and MIL-STD, through compliance testing. Ken understands not only the techniques of good EMC design, but also the nuances of troubleshooting elusive EMC problems. He has published numerous articles for magazines, such as Test & Measurement World, Interference Technology and InCompliance and has presented his EMC courses worldwide.
